Former Roma manager Luis Enrique has discussed suggestions that he failed at the Italian side after falling out with captain Francesco Totti. Even though the Italian legend is coming to the end of his career at almost 40 years of age, he still continues to be an integral part of the Roma team. There have been suggestions that Luis Enrique, who managed Roma after leaving the Barcelona B team, failed to achieve success at the Italian Serie A outfit due to his relationship with Totti. Totti commands a lot of respect in the dressing room and is thought to have wished upon the exit of Enrique.

After being named as the new Barcelona manager, Enrique claimed that he will be trying to achieve the success managed by his resources like Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova. Barcelona come the back of a very disappointing season in which they failed to win any major trophy under the stewardship of Gerardo Martino. This led to the Argentine losing his job after he agreed to part ways under mutual consent. Enrique is one of those individuals who knows the club extremely well, but he has had to fight off suggestions that he does not get along with the players.

“My relationship with Francesco? It haunts me, just like the elbow by Tassottion me! The day I announced my departure from Roma he was one of the few players who came to greet me. I had and still do have a wonderful relationship with him, but I am still in contact with a lot of the players I had at Roma. With Totti, the captain, I have a great relationship. At Barca I will motivate the players in the same way as I did at Roma and Celta Vigo,” said the new Barcelona manager in his first press conference.
